What to choose for summer creations. Part 1: Scheepjes Stone Washed
Some people see knitting and crochet as a winter pastime, when the evenings are cold and dark and you want to snuggle up with something warm to make. I like to snuggle up with something to make all year round and a cotton or cotton mix is nice and light to work with.
Scheepjes is a Dutch brand that I have recently increased in stock. The cotton mixes I stock in this brand include Stone Washed, Stone Washed XL, Bamboo Cotton and Organicon. I'm giving you a small introduction to the stone washed range.
1. Scheepjes Stone Washed
This is a lovely cotton mix from Dutch brand Scheepjes. It is a mix of 78% cotton and 22% acrylic. It has a lovely soft feel. It is described as a 4 ply but it is quite weighty as a 4 ply, it would work well in a DK pattern if you adjusted your size. As the name suggests, it has a lovely stone washed finish.
I crocheted this sample piece to try it out and it's really nice to work with, holds its shape and defines the stitches nicely without being rough.

Also just in is this lovely herringbone crochet cardigan pattern.

2. Scheepjes Stone Washed XL
Similar in quality to the stone washed but with a slightly different blend of 70% cotton and 30% acrylic, Scheepjes Stone Washed XL is thicker and would be classed as Aran weight, knit or crocheted on a 5mm needle or hook.

I recently knit this fair isle hat in this and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Again, it is a beautiful soft wool to work with. I really enjoyed making this hat. If you want to try your hand at a fair isle pattern this is a nice small pattern to start with.
